ResDelta Grid Carbon Index
Version 1.0.0 · 10 Ekim 2026
← Back to the indexDefinition
Hourly carbon intensity of electricity generation in Türkiye, measured in gCO₂/kWh. Over the latest measured period, the dirtiest five percent of hours are 2,24 times the cleanest five percent.
What the index does not claim
The absolute annual level is not a proprietary claim. The series is anchored to the Ministry’s official annual factor; the index contributes the hourly shape.
Data source
Hourly, source-level Real-Time Generation from EPİAŞ. The published history contains 94,100+ hours and exposes missing source periods rather than filling them silently.
Calculation
Hourly generation by source is multiplied by documented direct-emission factors and divided by domestic generation. International interconnection is excluded from both numerator and denominator.
Lifecycle emissions are outside scope; this version measures direct CO₂.
Official anchoring
The hourly raw series is scaled so the production-weighted 2023 average equals the Ministry’s official 434,0 gCO₂/kWh factor. A new official factor triggers a new methodology version.
Known midday bias
Unlicensed solar is absent from the EPİAŞ series, so daytime hours appear dirtier than they are. The largest measured bias is published visibly on the index page.
Uses
TSRS Scope 2 reporting, CBAM indirect emissions and hourly YEK-G matching. Users remain responsible for applying the factor to the correct reporting boundary.
Publication and versioning
Published monthly in the first business week. Method changes increment the version; past releases remain in the archive.
Data and citation
The hourly, monthly, annual and hourly-profile CSV files are free to download.

Comparison with Electricity Maps
Electricity Maps also covers Türkiye with live carbon intensity. Its value and ResDelta’s last-twelve-month value are not directly comparable: one is live and includes CO₂-equivalent gases, while ResDelta publishes a period average for direct CO₂.
Their order of magnitude is consistent. ResDelta additionally publishes a full free history, official national-factor reconciliation, a Türkiye-specific versioned method and a generation mix without an unattributed category.
Independence
ResDelta does not trade electricity, manage portfolios or sell power supply. It has no economic interest in the value of the index. The calculation uses public data and can be reproduced independently.
